US President Donald Trump said the war with Iran will end "very quickly" and claimed that oil prices will "come tumbling down", while asserting that the US has taken away Iran's nuclear power. US President Donald Trump has said the war with Iran could end “very quickly,” while claiming that US military action has significantly weakened Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He also predicted that oil prices would fall sharply once the conflict comes to an end.
Speaking to reporters before leaving Washington for a Republican campaign rally in San Antonio, Trump said the US had acted to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. “Their whole country right now is wiped out,” Trump said, adding that oil prices would “come tumbling down” after the war ends. Iran, however, has rejected Trump’s claims about the impact of the conflict. Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani dismissed his suggestion that the country’s oil minister resigned because of US pressure, calling it an attempt to distract from US failures. She described the resignation as a normal example of political flexibility rather than a sign of weakness. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has meanwhile said Tehran remains committed to defending its interests but is also prepared to pursue diplomacy. Iran has proposed a seven-day peace plan aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy supplies.
US Vice President JD Vance said Washington remains open to negotiations but wants concrete action from Iran, particularly a significant reduction in uranium enrichment. The prolonged conflict has disrupted energy markets and increased pressure on the Trump administration as higher fuel prices become an increasingly sensitive political issue ahead of the US midterm elections.
